You knew it was good when you opened it, and now, a couple of days later, you are assured. Return to the bottle a week later, and the wildness that was a tad unpleasant has left, leaving in its wake a fantastic whisky. Clynelish 14 can be a bit wild, untame, the sherry is too pronounced. Other whiskies can actually improve following opening. Johnnie Walker Blue Label is such a whisky and in this sense is clearly superior to Royal Salute. The flavor remains the same after opening. I still regularly buy Teacher's, Black Bottle and Johnnie Black. Besides being a sentimentalist, I still enjoy blends. Once people start to appreciate single malts, their memory and fondness for blended scotch wanes. It was the first love, where it all began. Judging from the above, you can see how I have a soft spot for blended scotch. It offers something to both camps that is very satisfying. You see, Black Label really is the crossroads or intersection where blended scotch and single malt enthusiasts meet. When I started to appreciate Black Label, I decided to try single malts again, and this time I started to slowly develop an appreciation for them. I enjoyed smoke and sea salt and even a little peat! Hence, I progressed to Teacher's Highland Cream, Chivas Regal 12 years and Johnnie Walker Black Label. It's one thing to be sweet, but not cloyingly so.Įventually, after a couple of years, I wanted more out of my whisky. I never liked Ballantine's Finest Finest or J & B Rare. It was sweet, a little nip on the tongue. So, for a couple of years, I drank nothing, but blends. I used to wonder: " if single malt's are so great, how come they are not as smooth and sweet as blends?" And then, there was the peat in single malts. They tasted, to my untrained palate, rough, strong, just too much. I'd try a single malt and couldn't figure out what the big deal was about them. Why? As a newbie, I put a premium on smooth character. When I first started drinking scotch whisky, I was all about the blends.

I think it’s best for the Street to have Little Bird so he and Big Bird could demonstrate big and little or become close friends. Big Bird would’ve been lonely if Little Bird wasn’t around. However, the animatronic figure version of him was recently featured in the ride Spaghetti Space Chase at Universal Studios Singapore.Ī very simple reason why Sesame Street needs Little Bird is that we could find out the size difference between him and Big Bird. The puppet was also used as a cuckoo bird, that Finchen helped to find a new sound. Marionette versions of Little Bird were also used during the songs ‘Do-Op Hop”, “I Whistle a Happy Tune”, and the “Song of One.” He even made small on-screen appearances during the 1980’s and 1990’s including a brief fly-by at Birdland in “The Birdland Jump” and having a line in “We Are All Earthlings.”Īlthough Little Bird was no longer on the Street, the puppet used for him was used on Sesamstrasse as an unnamed bird and Turbo Theo in episodes 22, respectively. He was also immortalized in toy form in the first series of Medicom Sesame Street Kubricks in 2003. He was most recently featured in Sesame Street sticker books in the early 2010’s. Little Bird was now rarely seen on the show after the 1970’s, though he continued as a frequent character in many Sesame Street books and merchandise. In that sketch, Little Bird was performed by Jerry Nelson. He also appeared in a sketch from Season 5 where a cow named Lola tried to find a home and unsuccessfully encountered an attempt to live in Little Bird’s nest. In addition to his own sketches, Little Bird was also featured in the song ‘Wonderful/Yucchy’ where he showed a small Orange Anything Muppet girl his lunch – a lunchbox full of worms. In the second sketch, Little Bird talked about the concept of ‘next to’ and Cookie Monster showed up to cuddle next to him. But when he opened his eyes, it was really Herry Monster who was behind him. For the 1990 video game Big Birds Hide & Speak, Little Bird serves as a playable character who flies to the windows of 123 Sesame Street in order to find various residents of Sesame Street. He concluded the game by imagining a monster behind him. In the first sketch he played the imagination game with the audience where he closed his eyes and imagined things. Little Bird was very prominent in his own two sketches. Although Brill is a female performer, the character is actually male. In Season 2, the little bird was now refurbished to make him small and cute and was performed by Fran Brill. He also appeared in the game show “Pick Your Pet”. Jim Henson performed Little Bird in at least two sketches. The puppet then first appeared during the first season of Sesame Street. Little Bird was first used as the Muppetised version of the Kenner Gooney Bird, created by Jim Henson for the Easy Bake Oven commercials in 1968. While Big Bird is big, Little Bird is little. Little Bird is a little feathered friend of Big Bird and their sizes are exactly different. Overall, its a good mix - although it would've been nice to have the original mono sound as well. I detected a little bit of quiet hisses and pops during less noisy interludes, but nothing very noticeable. As expected, its not very active in the back speakers save for some select moments, and mostly stays in the front. I give the sound higher marks than the picture quality, for being clear and having good range for a 60-year-old picture. The audio comes in the form of a Dolby Digital 5.1 remix. Hopefully in the near future, Dumbo will get the better treatment it deserves. Yet, we all know Disney can do better than this, when comparing it to the exquisite transfers of titles like Snow White and Fantasia. When considering how old the film is, it does look okay. A lot of colors look washed out, and a couple scenes almost look VHS quality. It's presented in its original aspect ratio of approximately 1.33:1, being a grainy transfer. One word comes to mind to describe the video quality of this title: disappointing. Out of Print Suggested Retail Price: $29.99 It comes in a standard, white, amaray keepcase, including a coupon book for other Disney merchandise, and a one-page insert with listings of the chapters and bonus materials.ġ.33:1 Original Aspect Ratio (Fullscreen) Released in October 2001, Dumbo arrives for the first time on DVD in a single-disc "60th Anniversary Edition". Its definitely found its place near the top of my 10 favorite animated classics. It's a brief, but very satisfying movie that works on all levels. As I said earlier, I feel horrible for having ignored this little jewel for so long. and I'll admit that it made me want to go give my mom a big hug afterwards. I ended the film feeling deeply moved by the whole experience. To sum it up, I went into viewing Dumbo with a bit of a cynical attitude. They all deserve to be available to the public. Really, each of the aforementioned examples does not portray anyone in a negative light, but rather a positive one. Standard that should be corrected by releasing Song on DVD once and for all. Maybe its just me, but it seems like the incident in Dumbo (and Peter Pan, for that matter) has more potential to offend someone than anything in Song of the South. However, Disney allows the film to be on the market, while they keep Song of the South in their vault. In Dumbo, there is a group of crow characters who are obvious stereotypes of African-Americans. I'd like to take this opportunity to bring out a side point relating to the movie. But its hard for me to find fault with that, as its such an incredible piece to watch. Unfortunately, I think it affects the pacing of Dumbo negatively, and breaks the straight-forward, smooth telling of the story. I really can't find words to describe it, other than I think its one of the best movie sequences in history. In addition, there's an incredibly abstract, bizarre segment called "Pink Elephants on Parade" that made my jaw drop. It's just power coming from the pure animation. The emotion from these parts is so admirable, as there is no dialogue. There are many touching moments - specifically a heartbreaking scene where Dumbo goes to visit his caged mother. However, that's a big part of its charm - it feels like something devised from a child's uncluttered mind and is realized without any complications. The animation and backgrounds are a noticeable step down from the intense detail of Snow White, Pinocchio, and Fantasia. The story revolves around a little elephant who's an outcast trying to reunite with his mother. Frankly, after having seen it again recently, I could kick myself for not having re-discovered it sooner.Įverything about the movie is simpler than the three animated films that came before it. Although I've since become the biggest Disney fan I ever have been, Once I got older, I had begun to view it as "kiddie fare", and wasn't long after that when I began to dismiss Disney films altogether. I remember distinctly watching it a lot on VHS as a young child. Rather as most commonly used, “Stratego” is actually the name of a board game.īut the term is derived from ancient Greece and as implied points to the concept of military strategy. So even though this song doesn’t directly speak of concepts like, say the apocalypse, it is clear that the narrator has been influenced by such an understanding of the trajectory of society nonetheless.Īnd with him being fully submerged in this less-than-ideal world, he is also finding it challenging not being personally consumed by the negativity. Indeed even before getting through the first verse, we are met with a higher number of complex metaphors than is usually found in an entire standard pop song.īut as we have argued in the past, understanding these tracks is more based on feel than wording because no one, besides maybe die-hard Iron Maiden fans and the such, is likely to really understand all that’s being said anyway.Īnd what it all boils down to, under our estimation, is the vocalist being in some type of extremely burdened state. That’s not to say that such stresses are job-related or anything like that. Rather, it can be said that he is a product of the times, an individual who is not only laden by concerns for society at large but also himself being lost in the grand scheme of things. Jonathan Turner for Strategy Plus recommended Stratego to inexperienced players, or players looking for a strategic challenge that was not too difficult, but that expert players may find it too easy. You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for Iron Maiden's Stratego at .Īnd such is the case with Stratego. Īrnie Katz for VideoGames & Computer Entertainment gave the game 9 out of 10 overall and stated that even without elements like multiple perspectives and animations found in adaptations of strategy board games like chess, "the computerized Stratego is an outstanding electronic board game." Ĭolin Campbell for Amiga Power rated the game 52% and felt that the board game was trapped by its own design but cautioned that Accolade should have realized this before deciding to adapt it into a computer game. Zzap! rated the game 76% overall and stated that the game would demand the full attention of players and that intelligent players should give it a try. Ian Wrigley for Amiga Format rated the game 81% and stated that while the game remains the same as the board game, "some of the strategic twists it throws are sweet, if costly to your side". info rated the game 3 stars and recommended the game, but suggested that fans should be prepared to be somewhat disappointed. Reception Īlan Emrich reviewed the game for Computer Gaming World, and stated that the game "remains an extremely challenging solitaire game of remarkable diversity and subtlety" and credited the supplement to the rules and the artificial intelligence opponent. The game also includes multiple optional rules, such as using an aggressor advantage (attacking piece wins in a tie rather than mutual destruction), silent defense (defending piece does not get revealed on an unsuccessful attack), and rescue (allows a captured piece to be reintroduced when one player's unit lands on the opponent's end of the board). The game includes five levels of skill, ranging from sergeant to field marshal. The game only allows a single human player to play against the computer, with no multiplayer option. The game includes an option to play a demo game to show players how to play on the computer. Three alternate boards and one alternate set of pieces are available, and the game does not allow players to design their own. This adaptation does allow the player to choose different designs for the playing pieces and game board.
